Working from a background in time based media I have established a track record in temporary and permanent public art works. Working from a background in time based media I have established a track record in evolving permanent public art works that are particular to each site and are capable of change. Recent developments in my work have produced interactive light and sound work within a permanent public art context driven by the presence, movement and activity of the audience within a given site. The range of approaches has varied, including interactive light and sound sculptures, digital photographs laser etched in stone, interactive video sculptures and computer controlled glass and sound virtual water features. The scale of my work is also varied from large stainless steel landmark structures to small-scale sound installations. I treat each project as a blank canvas, drawing on the local context to establish a sense of identity and involving the local community wherever possible to create a sense of ownership and inclusion. One of my previous works, “Threshold”, an interactive sound and steel sculpture in Gateshead town centre received a Civic Trust Award.

My experience is extremely varied with each project demanding new challenges involving working with a range of specialists. Previous projects have included working in partnership with variety of artists, architects, landscape architects, designers, community groups, public authorities, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineers, software developers, scientists, archaeologists, English Heritage, City planners, Landscape designers, Department of Transport and the Ministry of Defence. I have experience of working in design teams and have worked on several regeneration schemes.

I am currently working on several projects in Dorset, including the Durlston Castle project, a redevelopment of the visitors centre, gateway to the Jurassic Coast line and a world Heritage site with the architect MJ Long from Long and Kentish Associates, for Dorset County Council. And Lead Artist on public art designs for West Bay, Enhancement Scheme, funded by West Dorset District Council. Both of these projects are set in areas of outstanding natural beauty with evolving environmental issues influencing the need for sustainable design and a strong emphasis on renewable energy.
